Sunraysia's rising chess superstars

SUNRAYSIA’S budding and experienced chess players will get the chance to showcase their skills next week, with the Sunraysia Chess Club to hosts its RJ Shield Tournament at the Mildura Senior College on Sunday, December 6.

The event will be open to players of all age groups and skill levels, with competitors as young as seven set to take part.

Advanced lectures from National Interschool Chess

One of the best aspects of the National Interschool Chess Championships is the chess coaching the kids received from accredited coaches.

After every game the players would sit down with a coach and go through the moves they played with the coach providing advice and insight along the way. This is one of the best ways of improving because the advice is specific to the mistakes you just made and being your own game you are emotionally involved so more likely to retain the knowledge.

Auckland Grammar (NZ) winners!

Open Secondary (full results) interschool finals resulted in a win for NZ Secondary Schools Champion, Auckland Grammar. Auckland Grammar top player, Daniel Shen, finished with 6.5; conceding a draw only to Brighton Grammar’s Jason Tang.  Laurence Matheson (Carey Grammar) also finished with 6.5 after an early draw with Michael Wu (Auckland Grammar).
